Interwork Support Workers come from diverse backgrounds, with varied work and industry practices, a wide range of skills and qualifications and a practical knowledge of the workplace.
Support Worker assistance is tailored to your individual needs.
Our Support Worker team members are located across the state, so they come to you and are available when and where you need them, for as long as you need them.
Assistance is available in any one or more of the following areas:
Job coaching - assistance with the learning of work skills and their application. Every position is different, and individuals have varying skills and needs which determine the duration and approach to coaching in the workplace.
Mentoring - assistance and guidance in the workplace including help with integration, understanding of workplace culture, managing disability and accessing appropriate supports.
Practical work assistance – assistance with the performance of specific tasks where required.
General work related support - assistance with maintaining work routines, handling work pressures, relating to colleagues and problem solving.
Career development – to ensure you have access to the knowledge and tools to help you with your continual work performance, productivity and ongoing development.
The Support Plan
For each employment Support Job a Support Plan is drawn up by the Employment Coordinator. The Support Plan outlines the role of the Support Worker for that job, the objectives to be achieved as well the duration of the support.
It is important that Support Workers carry out the Support Plan according to methods and techniques discussed with the Employment Coordinator and employer in the development stages.
Support Workers may take on a training role to assist the Client to achieve the learning objectives. Training could be in one or more of the following areas:
- Safe orientation into a new position;
- Maintenance of an existing position;
- Developing new skills for a new job;
- Understanding workplace culture;
- Development of greater independence.
