The Department of Employment and Work Relations (DEWR) is conducting research into employer initiatives for the recruitment and retention of people with mental illness.

The project which commenced in October, aims to identify employer strategies to recruit and retain people with mental illness and manage the impact of mental illness on organisations.

The research will also analyse the potential for these strategies to be adopted by other employers in Australia.

Under the direction of consultants Jenny Pearson and Associates, the study will involve interviews with at least fifty metropolitan and rural employers of all sizes across various industry sectors.

It is anticipated the project will be completed this financial year.
